The Hamstring Injury
It was one of the easiest and most enjoyable treks. I was taking physiotherapy for my Plantar Fascitis and it was getting better.
I took a chance.
On the way back, it was fun. The group had gone ahead. As usual I was with the last sub group. Taking the rear is always a role that I believed in.
There was a stretch that had a bit of scree. Having just improving my heel, I was being extra careful
And the unthinkable happened. I slipped with a jerk. At the same time someone who had called out to me from behind. I tried to turn and my knee sort of twisted
At first it just hurt. I was able to walk back to the base point with the pain. Then we got into the bus and stopped for tea on the way back.
The bus stopped and as usual me being in the navigators seat tried to get up. I couldnt
I simply couldnt move !!
It was tough. I called out to a friend and he helped me stand up and get off the bus
When I reached home, I was unable to stand even for at least one week. I couldnt imagine that it was an injury. To me it was just one of those instances where I had over exerted and my limbs would heal
But the pain just wouldnt go.
At least 2 months passed in this manner and then I decided to consult an orthopedic.
It was then that I realised that I had a tendon injury in the hamstring.
It was very painful but I had to rest. Rest was the only way out for the injury to heal and follow it up with few months of physiotherapy
It would have been different if I had visited the doc immediately, but I had lost at least a couple of months in the process.
Due to kidney ailment, I cant even consume anti-inflammatory doses. To add to it there was calcifications on the bone due to long years on dialysis.
There is a lot of uncertainty on whether I will be able to trek again
My trekking had come to a halt.
A Grinding halt.
I just hope I will be able to get back into the mountains again
Get back to my passion
